Seven of the leading two-year-old prospects from Britain and Ireland are set to take centre stage at Doncaster Racecourse on Saturday in the William Hill Futurity Trophy Stakes (Group 1). The £275,000 contest is the final Group 1 of the British Flat season.

Run over a straight mile, the prestigious contest has established itself as a significant stepping stone towards Classic success, with previous winners including Camelot, Saxon Warrior, Magna Grecia and Kameko.

Aidan O’Brien, who has enjoyed a record 12 victories in the race, is bidding to extend his remarkable record, with Noble Exhibit among his leading contenders.

The progressive son of Frankel arrives following consecutive victories, most recently producing an impressive front-running performance to capture the Group 2 Beresford Stakes. His credentials make him one of the principal contenders as O’Brien looks to follow up last year's success with Hawk Mountain.

The Ballydoyle trainer also has Giant Sequoia and Sergei Diaghilev set to go to post. Giant Sequoia brings further Group-race experience to the contest, while Sergei Diaghilev has demonstrated his consistency with two consecutive runner-up finishes.

Standing in the way of another O’Brien triumph is a strong British-trained challenge, headed by Charlie Appleby’s Al Hudaiba.

The Godolphin colt has already proven himself at the highest level, having secured Group 1 honours in Canada. William Buick is booked to partner the son of Dark Angel, who will be looking to add another significant prize to his growing record.

Karl Burke’s Burning Up is another leading contender following an encouraging campaign that has yielded two victories from three starts. His latest performance saw him finish runner-up in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket, and the colt will attempt to go one better under Clifford Lee.

Andrew Balding is represented by the unbeaten Gran Dia, who made an impressive winning debut at Salisbury earlier this month. The son of Lope De Vega, owned by Tony Bloom and Ian McAleavy, takes a considerable step up in class under Oisin Murphy as he bids to maintain his perfect record.

Breacher, trained by William Muir and Chris Grassick, adds further depth to the British challenge. A winner on debut, the colt has since produced two creditable third-place finishes, including in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster. He returns to Town Moor with Lewis Edmunds in the saddle and is set to tackle a mile for the first time.

David Attwood, Senior Clerk of the Course at Doncaster Racecourse, said:

“We’re delighted with the quality of the field declared for this year’s William Hill Futurity Trophy Stakes. It’s fantastic to see some of the leading yards from Britain and Ireland represented, and it promises to be a fascinating renewal.

“The Futurity Trophy is always one of the highlights of our season here at Doncaster, with a tremendous history of producing future Classic winners. It’s a race that gives us an exciting glimpse of the stars of tomorrow.

“Our team is working hard to ensure the track is presented in the best possible condition, and we’re really looking forward to welcoming connections and racegoers to Town Moor on Saturday for what should be a superb day of racing.”

The William Hill Futurity Trophy Stakes (Group 1) takes place at Doncaster Racecourse on Saturday 24 October 2026, at 1.30pm, over one mile, with a total prize fund of £275,000.
