God Given (5/1) battled gamely to give trainer Luca Cumani his sixth win in the Group 2 DFS Park Hill Stakes.

The filly relished the step back up to this longer trip as she defeated Horseplay (7/2) by a neck with the 6/5 favourite Pilaster back in third.

Horseplay held a narrow advantage entering the closing stages of the race but jockey Jamie Spencer and God Given refused to give up and kept on well to lead in the final strides.

Cumani said: “Jamie gets on really well with her, she was a little bit keen but he managed to settle her.

"She'll go to Ascot next. The plan was if she hadn't won today then we'd have gone to France for a Group 2. But now she's got her Group 2 there's no point.

"Her last race will be the Group 1 Fillies’ And Mares Stakes at Ascot and then she'll go to stud.”

Cumani was pleased to see his filly put it all together in a race after a few tricky incidents in the stalls on her last couple of runs.

He added: "The last two or three races she's been going in the stalls and then becoming very agitated so we've been doing a lot of work with her and she's been very good at home.

"Today she was very good in the stalls. She just gets herself a little bit worked up before the race so we'll just have to try and work on that.”
