Racing with the Family? Read our helpful advice

We know what makes a great day out, and we know how stressful it can be when you're planning a day away with the little ones…

There are over 30 racing fixtures throughout the year at Doncaster Racecourse. And we employ a team of hundreds. From bar tenders to grounds people, many of our team are experts in looking after little ones.

We asked some of them to put their thinking caps on to come up with this insiders guide to help your family day at the races a great one.

Value Day Out!

Jaimie-Lea, Racing Sales Co-ordinator says:

"I speak to so many customers on the phone and they're always surprised that mostly, kids can come racing for free! The only exception is when racing is combined with live music.

Under 18s need to be accompanied by an adult, though. And each full paying grown up can accompany up to three kids. Bargain!".

Totally teens

Carol, Racecourse Accountant says:

"I've got four boys between 13 and 20, so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to keeping teenagers entertained! Anyone bringing a teen to the races will have a great day out - my boys love it!

If your kids are always hungry, choose our Food Court in the Grandstand Enclosure. From Pizzas to Burgers - it's got the type of food that kids love. The style of seating makes it a nice informal place to feed hungry teens between races."

Making it easy for single parents

Jody, Racecourse Secretary says:

"I'm a single mum and when I have a day out with my two little boys - I want great value and importantly, simplicity. That's just what we've developed here at Doncaster Racecourse. Other sporting venues charge for kids but in most cases we welcome children free when accompanied by a grown up.

And here's the great bit, you can join us in our Frenchgate Family Enclosure from just £6.50!"

Baby changing

Mark, Operations Manager says:

"Baby changing facilities are available throughout Doncaster Racecourse, so there's no need to panic. Just remember that we don't have any spare nappies, so I'd definitely encourage you to bring a few extra, if you think you might run out!"

Baby food and milk

Margaret, Purchase Ledger Manager says:

"We have self serve microwaves in both our Grandstand and Frenchgate Family Enclosures, where you can heat up your own baby food or milk. And if you're dining with us in one of our restaurants, let us know in advance if you have any special requirements in terms of baby food."

Treats for the little ones

Louise, Operational Support Manager says:

"Look our for Doncaster Racecourse's Family Day. Expect kid's characters, fairground rides and face painting - we turn the racecourse into a completely fabulous family affair. It happens once a year - normally on a Sunday in June.

Many families join us for the first time and tell us they love it so much that they come back again and again throughout the year! Away from the Family Day, a selection of fairground rides on most weekend racedays are available. Full details are always on the fixture pages online"
