TOWN MOOR VENUE IS FIRST PAST THE WINNING POST AT DONCASTER CHAMBER BUSINESS AWARDS
Doncaster Racecourse and Exhibition Centre is celebrating being first past the winning post at an awards ceremony that recognised the significant impact the venue has had on the regional economy during the past year.
The team at the Town Moor venue took away the award for Outstanding Contribution to the Doncaster Economy at the annual Doncaster Chamber Business awards which took place at the Dome last Thursday evening (16 December). The awards celebrate the successes and achievements of business in and around Doncaster over the past 12 months and this year's auspicious event was attended by over 650 guests from the regional business community.
Judges deemed the Racecourse, which doubles as a state-of-the-art conference and exhibition venue following a £35million investment by owners Arena Leisure in 2007, as the worthy winner based on a number of factors. Criteria included the venue's commitment to partnership working; its work with the local community; the work it carries out with schools in conjunction with the British Horse Education Standards Trust (BHEST); the level of charitable work undertaken at the venue; excellent staff development and engagement; and the fact that a high percentage of employers are from the local area.
Commenting on the award win, Mark Spincer, managing director at Doncaster Racecourse, said: "We are delighted to have been recognised in this way by the Doncaster Chamber. While the investment by Arena Leisure positions us as a world-class venue, we consider ourselves as very much a part of the local community, so it is especially rewarding to be recognised for our contribution to the local economy. The award pays testament to the hard work of the team and our partners over the past year.
"The award win is the icing on the cake after a very successful year which includes a record breaking Ladbrokes St Leger Festival, and an increase in our key revenue streams, ranging from attendance at our racedays and music concerts, to corporate hospitality, conferences and exhibitions. We're well positioned to continue its growth into next year and beyond."
