Chart Topping R 'n' B Acts Announced! 02-02-09
R'n'B Chart Toppers LEMAR, ALESHA DIXON and JAMELIA
Live after racing at Doncaster Racecourse!
2009 can only get better for live concerts after racing at Doncaster Racecourse, as the team at the racecourse announce the celebrated artists for another the last of three fabulous musical events that are set to see Town Moor rock!
Another musical genre has been introduced at the racecourse, as UK and world chart toppers Lemar, Alesha Dixon and Jamelia are announced as the line up confirmed to perform after racing on Saturday, June 27th.
There aren't many who can claim success on the scale of UK R'n'B legend Lemar. As well as awards, acclaim, platinum sales and sold-out tours, the North London singer/songwriter is one of a handful of artists able to balance incredible commercial success whilst maintaining credibility as one of the best ever UK vocalists. Reported as giving truly phenomenal performances, with a vocal quality comparative to the late, great Luther Vandross, Lemar previously supported huge musical acts such as Destiny's Child and Usher before becoming a star in his own right.
Alesha Dixon has become best known in recent times for winning Strictly Come Dancing at the end of 2007 and last month climbed Mount Kilimanjaro as part of a celebrity 'posse' in support of Comic Relief. Alesha has spent much of the past decade in the charts and she is now back in the driving seat with the release of her incredible debut album. Alesha's career first took off in her 20's when, as one third of teen R'n'B all girl sensation Mis-teeq, she then burst back on to the music scene again earlier this year after signing to Asylum Records and blasted back into the charts with 'The Boy Does Nothing', a great introduction to her new album.
The Daily Telegraph said of Jamelia, "If anyone is likely to beat the world-conquering stars of American R'n'B at their own game, it's Jamelia", and today she remains as one of Britain's most successful black female entertainers. Following her success in 2004, when she had three top 5 hits from her album "Thank You" she incredibly stormed the top 10 again with "Stop", the theme for the second Bridget Jones film, at this point she was unstoppable, one of the most successful solo artists in the country.
This is the final line-up to be announced for three live outdoor concerts at Doncaster Racecourse throughout June and July beginning on 5th June with the fabulous 1980's icons Paul Young, Belinda Carlisle, Midge Ure, Kim Wilde, Curiosity Killed the Cat and Kid Creole & The Coconuts; the fabulous R'n'B night with Lemar, Alesha Dixon and Jamelia on June 27th and on July 23rd, the kings of rock themselves Status Quo will perform at Town Moor.
Racecourse Managing Director Adam Waterworth said of this summer's musical treats: "Our strategy with the music nights was to offer a great evening's racing followed by a range of live outdoor gigs that would suit a variety of musical tastes, we think that we have achieved that with the artists that we have signed up". "These nights are going to be brilliant - a great alternative summer night out".
END.
