RACING AT DONCASTER ON FRIDAY CELEBRATES THE CENTENARY OF BRITAIN'S FIRST AIR SHOW

Doncaster's seven-race programme on Friday (July 3), which begins at 2-00 p.m., is the backdrop to the centenary celebrations of the Britain's first-ever organised Air Show, which took place in October 1909.

The racecourse has teamed up with the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington near York and Robin Hood Airport to mark the 100th Anniversary of that momentous Air Show, when thousands flocked to Town Moor to witness the wonderful flying machines and their dare-devil aviators. There will be stands, memorabilia, characters in period costume and information about that history-making day at Doncaster.

On the track, the feature race is The Wakefield Hospice Handicap Stakes over seven furlongs. FOLLOWED BY THURSDAY EVENING - THE DONCASTER ROVERS BOYS' NIGHT IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE REGIONAL MAGAZINE COMPANY

The first of three consecutive Thursday evening meetings at Doncaster, combining racing with a fantastic range of 'boys' themed entertainment and live music taking place the following Thursday (July 9), when racing begins at 6-40 p.m. with a handicap contest for apprentice jockeys supported by JCT600 Mercedes-Benz South Yorkshire. The rest of the action on the track is supported by The Regional Magazine Company to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their Eastside Magazine which covers the Doncaster area.

The 'boys' are well catered for at this evening fixture with a full 'Indoor Games Arena' in the main betting hall. Everything from Nintendo Wii's to a Formula 1 Racing Car Simulator, indoor Archery, mini crazy golf and a host of other attractions, including The Titan Robot Show with a stunning eight-foot robot! The girls don't have to miss out either, they can join in too.

The acclaimed 'Acoustic Angels', who have toured the world, having written for and backed major artists from 'Take That' to Ray Charles, from 'The Spice Girls' to 'The Who' will perform 'live' after racing in the main betting hall.

The giant screen situated opposite the main stands will enable racegoers to see all of the action. A shuttle bus service will be in operation from the railway station (£2 return)
